TIRUMALA: Minister for Major Irrigation Ponnala Lakshmaiah on Monday blamed the Orissa Government for failing to solve the Vamsadhara project water dispute. Talking to mediapersons here, he said that though the State was entitled to utilise 50 per cent of water from the project as per the agreement, only 20 tmcft of water was being drawn currently from the project which has an overall capacity of 75 tmcft. Coming down heavily on the Orissa Government for raising the issue of 106 acres going under water, he said that except for this minor issue, the project was cleared of other technical problems. The Union Water Resources Ministry had called for a high-level meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday to discuss the issue, he added. In the evening, the Minister offered prayers at the temple of Lord Venkateswara.
