GULBARGA: A total bandh was observed in Chitapur town in Gulbarga district in protest against the desecration of statue of Dr. Ambedkar at Kanpur a few days ago. The call for the bandh was given by the Federation of the Dalit Organisations. Life was affected in the town with all shops, business establishments, hotels downing their shutters. The North Eastern Karnataka Road Transport Corporation suspended its services in the town as a precautionary measure and all other modes of transport stayed off the road. No untoward incident was reported during the bandh. Later, the various Dalit organisations took out a procession in the town and submitted a memorandum to the tahsildar demanding action against those responsible for the incident. In Gulbarga, the Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (Bheem Vada) staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office protesting against the Kherlanji incident, in which four Dalits were killed, and the Kanpur incident.
