Heavy bandobust in Bobbili

G. Narasimha Rao

  • Congress, Telugu Desam keep an eye on each other
  • All roads leading to villages under strict vigil

VIZIANAGARAM: Heavy police bandobust was conspicuous all over the Bobbili Parliamentary constituency where peaceful polling was held on Monday barring minor incidents.

Also noticeable was the high and low voter turnout in different parts of the constituency under which some villages of adjacent Srikakulam district fall. CRPF personnel with automatic weapons were deployed at all the polling booths in addition to State policemen. Roads leading to the villages from the State and National Highways were under vigil and the police checked vehicles.

    Vigilance teams engaged

The TDP and the Congress engaged their own `vigilance teams.' They were ready with cell phones and cameras to record any mischief done by the rival and inform the same to their leaders. Voting was brisk at some places and dull at other areas. Locals attributed the latter to the huge quantity of liquor the two parties had distributed since Saturday night. However, voters, except for a few, were not willing to reveal which party stood a chance of winning. It was 50:50, many said. One disturbing news for the Telugu Desam was that some voters vouch that the Congress `worked hard' on Sunday night and this might tilt the scales in favour of the ruling party. Polling was brisk at Bondapalli in Garividi mandal under the Cheepurupalli Assembly segment,

    G. Singadam and Ponduru, the last two in Srikakulam district, but falling under the Bobbili constituency.
