Special coaching for English

The District Centre of English (DCE), Kozhikode, affiliated to the Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages (CIEFL), Hyderabad, has been roped in to improve the performance of students in the English paper of the SSLC examination.

The programme, funded by the Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) with academic support from the SCERT, grades each school in the district according to their performance in the last SSLC examination.

The teachers of these schools are invited to the DCE and provided training in discourse-oriented classroom strategies in teaching of English.

The tutors at DCE visit such schools and give spot help to students.

Special coaching to underachievers, supervised study camps and night classes, special counselling for parents of underachievers are some of the features of the programme.

The DCE targets 80 per cent result in English in the district in the SSLC examinations.
