BANGALORE: The Canada-based communications solution leader Nortel has chosen Delhi for its third global Network Management Centre (NMC), its first in Asia. The immediate beneficiary is Bharti Airtel, which has tied up to have Nortel `minding the store,' round the clock for the next five years on a pay-by-use plan. Nortel will host Airtel's contact centre and interactive voice response services in multiple languages. The Delhi centre joins similar NMCs in London (the U.K.) and Raleigh (North Carolina, U.S.). Nortel India's Managing Director Ravi Chauhan told The Hindu that "we are alone in offering an end-to-end solution for telecom network management, including the industry's first real time support for VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) telephony with voice quality.'' Nortel has also announced its intention to launch trials this month in the Delhi and Gurgaon areas for fixed WiMax broadband Internet. Its 100-strong development team is based here.
