PUDUCHERRY: The Union Minister for Tourism, Ambika Soni, has assured assistance of Rs.1 crore for promotion of rural tourism in the Union Territory. The assurance was given to the Tourism Minister Malladi Krishna Rao, when he had an interactive meeting with Union Ministers along with M. Ramadoss M.P., on Monday, a release from State Tourism Minister's office said. The tourism promotion would be routed through non-governmental organisations. On the demand for more assistance for tourism promotion, she had requested the Minister to send necessary proposals, for which assistance up to Rs.50 crore would be released. Union Minister for Human Resource Development Arjun Singh had directed his joint secretary to examine the need for allocation of more funds to the development of Navodaya School at Mettacur in Yanam. Mr. Rao had sought an assistance of Rs. 2 crore for earth filling and development of a play field in the school.
