NELLORE: To encourage donors, President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam will present mementoes to those who have contributed more than Rs.10 lakhs to Jakka Sujathamma Cancer Hospital. Announcing this on Tuesday, Collector M. Ravi Chandra said that the President would also present mementoes to meritorious students, sports persons and others, who had excelled in their respective fields on December 11 when Dr. Kalam would visit to Nellore to inaugurate the cancer hospital. Dodla Varada Reddy and Rukminamma charities have donated Rs. 50 lakhs for construction of a radiotherapy centre of the hospital. Andhra Bank Chairman has donated Rs. 21 lakhs for the mammogram equipment. Bollineni Krishnaiah, auditor Dasaratharami Reddy, G. Kanya Kumari, Magunta family and noted philanthropist J.S. Reddy have donated Rs. 10 lakhs each while A. Kishore Reddy donated Rs.14 lakhs to the cancer hospital, which is being run by the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS). Meanwhile, the district Collector appealed to philanthropists and general public to donate liberally to the hospital. It was also proposed to raise a corpus fund of Rs. 2.5 crores for poor patients, he said.
