BIDAR: The Karnataka State Handicapped Persons Welfare Committee has urged the Government to set up counselling and training centres to help persons with disabilities seek help from the Government and get employment. "After six decades of Independence, problems such as education, employment and welfare of the physically challenged remain unsolved. Successive Governments have implemented only populist schemes and got votes in return. The present Government should take up meaningful programmes that aim at achieving the greatest good for the greatest number," the committee leaders said in a memorandum to the Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy. They demanded free bus passes for the physically challenged, increase in monthly compensation to Rs. 500 from the present Rs. 200and filling up backlog vacancies with physically challenged persons.
