BHUBANESWAR: The Union Bank of India (UBI) is planning to open 18 new branches in the eastern India and setting up 48 more ATM counters by the end of March next. Bank's general manager and head of eastern zone S.C. Sinha, who was here recently to launch Union Classic Current Account scheme, said: "it will be my sincere endeavour to increase the customer base in the eastern region." The bank would also increase CBS (Core Banking Solutions) braches by 83 in the region, he said. The UBI, which has 52 branches and 14 ATMs in the State, achieved a total business of Rs. 2576.90 crores by the last fiscal. The bank has plans to open one new branch at Barbil in Keonjhar district and 10 ATMs in the State by the end of this fiscal.
Another venture
Mr. Sinha said the UBI was going to participate in a big way in the power sector investment in the State. Sources said the bank was in talks with five major power companies which had proposed to set up thermal power plants in the State. The new scheme would be available in the bank's 130 CBS branches in the eastern zone, comprising Orissa, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam and other north eastern states and the bank aimed at mopping up a deposit of Rs. 800 to Rs.1000 crores by this December-end, he said.
