Timely issue of passports sought

Staff Reporter

`Citizens being denied the fundamental right to have proper service'

  • Association leader says RPO at Secudnerabad is taking four-five months for its issue
  • Shortage of passport books is one of the reasons for the delay, he says

VIJAYAWADA: The Samata Students' Federation (SSA) has appealed to passport officials to ensure that there is no abnormal delay in issue of new passports. It has expressed concern over the difficulties encountered by students aspiring to go abroad for higher studies due to unwarranted delays in issuance of passports. SSA president P. Ravi Teja says that the Regional Passport Office (RPO) at Secunderabad is taking four to five months to issue passports with regard to many applicants. The fundamental right of a citizen to have proper services is being denied in this respect. The RPO should take just 30 days for issuing the passport. As per citizen's charter, another 14 days may be allowed for police verification certificate to reach the passport officials.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Teja said that the passport officials were citing non-receipt of police verification report in time as the main reason. But it was found out that scarcity of passport books was one of the reasons for the delay.
