Of fibre optics and much more

Aiming to provide a common platform to encourage British-India research and cooperation in the field of fibre optics, a three-day workshop is being organised in the Capital beginning this Thursday.

The workshop, being jointly organised by the British High Commission and the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, will involve a series of lectures followed by presentations on advanced concepts, applications and case studies.

The event seeks to promote research and collaboration between the two countries in fibre optic sensors, guided wave optical components and MicroOptoElectroMechanical Systems (MOEMS) technologies through which eventual industrial exploitation can be realised.

The workshop, to be held at the British Council auditorium, will host discussions on the emerging new technologies in the area of optical fibre sensor, including fibre optic gyroscope.

Six eminent British experts will participate in this event. The United Kingdom delegation will comprise Tim Birks from Bath University; Brian Culshaw, Walter Johnstone and Deepak Uttamchandani from the University of Strathclyde; David Webb from Aston University; and David Payne from the University of Southampton.

The British High Commission in India is the main sponsor of the workshop. -- Parul Sharma
