KOLLAM: Calling for an immediate ban on unauthorised sand-mining in West Kallada grama panchayat, activists under the banner of the Environment Protection Coordination Council marched to the Kollam Superintendent of Police Office on Tuesday. The activist also protested against the withdrawal of the police picket in the area. The picket had acted as a check on mining. The march was blocked by a police cordon ahead of the SP office. The demonstrators then sat on the road and held a protest meeting. Later, a delegation met Kollam SP S. Gopinath and submitted a memorandum.
