Prime Minister goes poetic

HYDERABAD: The poet in Prime Minister Manmohan Singh took the audience by surprise at the Indian School of Business here on Tuesday.

Emphasising on regeneration of rural India, Dr. Singh said: "I remember a poem by Oliver Goldsmith from my school days. I forget most of it but a few lines remained stuck...But a bold peasantry their country's pride, when once destroyed can never be supplied."

He impressed upon the industry to pay attention to the growth of rural economy, while citing the paradox of the country's agriculture contributing slightly more than 20 per cent of the GDP but supporting 65 per cent of the population.

Referring to industrialist S. K. Munjal's appeal, he said adequate attention would be paid to rural business hubs during the Eleventh Five Year Plan.
