HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party has sought booking of cases under the Prevention of Corruption Act against top political leaders and senior irrigation officials in the wake of reported finding by the Lok Ayukta of Rs. 390 crores excess payment to contractors of the Yellampalli project. At a press conference here on Tuesday, senior Telugu Desam Party leader N. Janardhana Reddy and legislator V. Narender Reddy also wanted cases of conspiracy booked against them as they had changed the internal benchmark and enhanced the project cost.
To petition Manmohan
The leaders said the party would petition Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the issue. It was seeking legal opinion on the possibility of lodging a police complaint for booking cases against Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and others. There was a need for Dr. Manmohan Singh and All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi to take action against the Chief Minister in the wake of the Lok Ayukta's finding. The Telugu Desam leaders wanted the Chief Minister to institute an enquiry by a sitting High Court judge into the `irregularities' in various irrigation projects.
