HYDERABAD: Last date for submission of applications for sanction of additional sections and extension of provisional affiliation (Form-II) for the academic year 2007-08 has been extended to December 8, according to a official press release issued by Secretary, Board of Intermediate D. RTC decision criticised

HYDERABAD: APSRTC Employees' Union has criticised the reported decision of RTC Managing Director V. Dinesh Reddy to wind up loss-making depots.

In a statement, N.A. Khan, president said the corporation's stability itself would become an issue if depots were closed for incurring losses. The decision appeared to be part of a conspiracy to do away with identity of the RTC, he alleged. - Special Correspondent

`Hold plebiscite'

KARIMNAGAR: Former convener of Telangana Legislators' Forum V. Jagapathi Rao has asked the Government to hold a plebiscite on the formation of separate Telangana in the region instead of evolving consensus among all the political parties.

In a press note here on Tuesday, Mr. Rao said that results in the byelection to the Karimnagar parliamentary constituency would teach a fitting lesson to the parties, which opposed statehood to Telangana. - Staff Reporter

Tiger death accidental

KURNOOL: Wildlife experts who examined the post-mortem report and the scene of the death of the tiger in Nallamala forest near Bairluti concluded that the death occurred accidentally while it was trying to mate. The male cat weighed about 200 kg. Officials ruled out sabotage as the skin and nails of the animal were intact. - Special Correspondent

Statue desecrated

Sangareddy: Cases were booked against three miscreants for desecrating the statue of B. R. Ambedkar in Malkapur village under Sadasivapet police circle on Tuesday. According to Sadasivapet CI S. Satyanarayana, the Ambedkar statue was found garlanded with footwear during the early hours of Tuesday. The villagers protested against the desecration. - Staff Reporter

Robbery bid?

ADILABAD: The windscreen of an RTC bus proceeding to Amaravati town in Maharashtra from Hyderabad was broken after some miscreants pelted stone at it near Mavala village at about 5 a.m. on Tuesday. According to the bus driver two to three unknown persons threw stones towards the bus about 5 km from Adilabad town. Rural CI Mashooq Ali said the apparent motive seemed to be to rob the passengers. - Staff Reporter

Combing intensified

KURNOOL: Police intensified combing in the Nallamala forest following exchange of fire between Greyhounds personnel and CPI(Maoist) extremists near Srisailam in Kurnool district on Monday night. The fire started from Kurnool district limits, according to reports.— Special Correspondent

Lawyers' protest

KURNOOL: SC and ST Lawyers Forum, led by Y. Jayaraju, staged a protest here on Tuesday condemning the Maharastra incident where Dalit women were raped and murdered and desecration of Ambedkar statue at Kanpur. Addressing the protest rally at Ambedkar statue, Mr. Jayaraju said in spite of stringent law, no justice was meted out to Dalits as non-Dalits were the law enforcers. — Special Correspondent

Man beaten to death

KADAPA: Pothireddy Chennakesavulu (25) was beaten to death with sticks by rivals in Idupulapaya village in Vempalle mandal on Monday night. One Krishnaiah of the same village surrendered to the police and confessed to have killed Chennakesavulu. — Staff Reporter

Commits suicide

KURNOOL: Seshaphani Setti (40) committed suicide by consuming poison here on Tuesday. According to reports, Sheshaphani checked into a hotel near the bus stand on Monday and consumed pesticide. — Special Correspondent

Kakinada: The institute of Sri Ramachandra Consciousness will conduct a two-day free training course in Raja Yoga from December 9 at F3-Triveni Sangham, Venkatnagar, according to its organiser M. Venkata Rathnam. - Correspondent

Airmen recruitment

Srikakulam: A rally for recruitment of airmen in the Indian Air Force will be organised at the police grounds in Visakhapatnam from December 8 to 11.

According to a press release , unmarried men from Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts are eligible. Successful candidates would undergo interview on December 11. - Special Correspondent

Mobile health service

Kakinada: East Godavari S.P. Battini Srinivasulu launched the mobile health service programme initiated by the LEPRA society, at a function held here on Tuesday. He formally inaugurated the mobile health care unit-`Harivillu' and Mobile HIV testing centre `Godavari' on the occasion. He said HIV screening before marriage should be compulsory. - Correspondent

Tobacco ryots stage dharna

Eluru: Tobacco farmers staged a dharna at the tobacco platform in Jangareddigudem of West Godavari district on Monday in protest against the reported move of the Government to shift the tobacco board from Guntur.

Addressing the protesters, Rythu Sangham district president V. Balaram accused the Central Government of trying to shift the board to Karnataka in an alleged attempt to serve the interests of ttrader lobby. - Staff Reporter
