Madurai: The men's final of the Tamil Nadu State senior volleyball championship organised by Madurai District Volleyball Association will be a repeat of last year's final as the joint champions and traditional rivals, Indian Bank and Indian Overseas Bank, both from Chennai, made their predictable entries in to the final in contrasting styles near here. In the semifinals on Monday night, Indian Bank posted an easy straight sets (25-18, 25-17, 25-19) victory over Nethaji Sports Club, Nanganallur, while IOB, after conceding first two sets, had to struggle hard and bringforth its best before eliminating a spirited SDAT Excellence team from Chennai in an absorbing encounter. IOB won 20-25, 22-25, 25-17, 25-18, 15-8. In the women's semifinals, GKM Foundation, Kanchipuram beat Armed Police Chennai 25-18, 25-13, 25-13, while Lotus VBC, Thadagam beat Dr. Sivanthi VBC, Chennai 14-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-18.
District-level chess

First win for Manipur
Defending champion, Manipur University beat Punjab University, Chandigarh 2-1 for its first win in the All-India inter-university women's football tournament organised by Alagappa University at Karaikudi on Tuesday. It was Punjab which took the lead in the 25th minute through Manjit Kaur before Manipur equalised throght Male Migandi Thanu in the 45th minute. Irani Devi scored the winning goal in the 59th minute. In another match, a goal scored by Soma helped Kurukshetra University defeat Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar 1-0.Punjab, with no point in two matches, lost the race while the other three Manipur(4points), Kurukshetra (4) and Guru Nanak Dev (3) are in the race for the honours, with only one round to go.
Le-Chatelier BC wins
Le-Chatelier Badmintan Club beat Temple City Badmintan Club `A' 3-0 for the title in the final of the Shanmugathai memorial Badmintan Club Mastrers Top Three doubles tournament at Madurai on Sunday.
Cibi Hariharan, Vallikannu are champs
Cibi Hariharan of KVS Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Virudhunagar and M. Vallikannu of Ananda Vidhyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Rajapalayam won the boys' under-19 and girls' under-19 titles respectively in the Virudhunagar District Amateur chess tournament organised by Rathinam Chess Academy at Jaycees MHSS Campus, Sivakasi on Sunday. Other Winners: Boys: U-15: R. Visakan (JMHSS, SVK); U-13: C. Sivanath (G.S. Hindu HSS, Srivilliputhur); U-11: Adhipathi Kamesh (SHNVM HSS, SVK); U-9: Arun Sankar (SHNVM HSS); U-7: Aravind Sundar (JMHSS). Girls: U-15: Gowri (G.R.N. MHSS, SVK); U-13: P. Saranya (A.V. State-level basketball
