Karan stuns Chirag S. Igoor

BANGALORE: S. Karan of Karnataka defeated teammate and sixth seed Chirag S. Igoor at 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 in the second round of the boys' under-14 singles in the Century Club AITA Champion Series (under-14 & 16) tennis tournament here on Tuesday.

In the under-16 singles, P. Nitesh upset the fourth seed Sharan Patil 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 in an all-Karnataka clash. Rachana R. Gowda of Karnataka beat the sixth seed M.P. Nitha 6-1, 6-4 in the girls' under-16 singles second round.

Vijaya Bank in quarterfinals

The top three outfits — Vijaya Bank, HAL and MEG — coasted to the quarterfinals of the State senior basketball championship for the Association Cup here on Tuesday. Vijaya Bank defeated SAI, Dharwad 49-28 and HAL beat Rajmahal SC 56-26 while MEG scored a 50-36 win over K.S. Hegde Club

Taanya in two finals

Taanya Ravi entered both the girls singles' under-16 and under-13 finals of the Bangalore City Institute State-ranking badminton championship at the club courts here on Tuesday. In the under-16 singles semi-finals, Taanya defeated K.S. Divya 21-11, 21-7 and in the under-13 singles section, she beat Poorvisha 21-11, 21-8.

Shesasayanam bags title

G. Shesasayanam of KGF First Grade College claimed the title in the Kolar District Chess championship conducted by the KGF Chess International Club at KGF. Sheshasayanam topped the board with four points from as many rounds. Somasundaram finished as the runner-up with 3.5 points.

National qualifying rounds

The qualifying rounds of the National Billiards and snooker championship will be held at the KSBA here from January 15, 2007.
