Doha: Koneru Humpy, the Asian individual women's chess champion had a busy time answering congratulatory calls on her cell phone ever since she was crowned at an interesting closing ceremony where the Indian National Anthem was played for the first time in Doha. The first caller was Mr. D.V. Sundar, Secretary, the All India Chess Federation (AICF), who told her that she was India's golden girl. Among the scores of other friends and relatives offering her congratulations were Mr. Ravi Dongre, Vice-President, AICF, and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandra Babu Naidu. At the dining hall on Monday night, many participants from other countries asked for and got themselves photographed with Humpy. Tuesday is a free day for chess and in the morning, the Indian team had consultation with Dr. Bharatinder Singh, physician of the Indian contingent here, for an hour.
