ALAPPUZHA: State Human Rights Commission member A. Lakshmikutty has deputed District Collector K.R. Viswambharan to conduct an inquiry into the complaints that several people who lost their homes in the tsunami are being denied financial assistance promised by the Government. Justice Lakshmikkutty issued the order at a sitting of the Commission held at the Guest House here on Monday. Five persons from the tsunami affected Arattupuzha panchayat in the district had filed a complaint before the Commission that they were deliberately omitted from the list of beneficiaries prepared by the authorities. Chandran of Perumbally, a complainant, said he had lost his house completely in the tsunami. Though his name was in the initial list of beneficiaries prepared by the authorities, it was not in the final list. Bharatan of Perumbally complained that the aid of Rs.5,000 allotted by the authorities for renovation of his house damaged in the tsunami was insufficient. Cherthala Tahsildar Ramachandra Panicker, Karthikappally Tahsildar Prasanna Kumar Kaimal and Human Rights Protection Council State president M. Jayamohan took part in the hearing.
