BERHAMPUR: Traders of the railway station area here staged a demonstration in front of the office of the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC), southern range, asking the State government for immediate rehabilitation of roadside traders who lost their livelihood following the recent anti-encroachment drive by the Berhampur Development Authority (BDA). On December 1, the BDA authorities had used bulldozers to clear up kiosks on the side of the road leading to Berhampur Railway Station. Sarat Panda, president of the Station Bazar Traders' Union, said the traders who lost their livelihood through the anti-encroachment drive should be rehabilitated at the open space inside the passengers' resting campus of British era that exists near the railway station with unused pace. The displaced traders alleged that on February 1 the Berhampur Development Authority employees also used force to remove them from the roadside in an anti-encroachment drive.
