Power shutdown

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended on Thursday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. in Koyambedu market, part of 100 feet Road, Poonamallee High Road in Koyambedu, S.M.S. Nagar, Chinmaya Nagar and part of Virugambakkam.

Club activities inaugurated

Chris Gibson, Director, British Council, South India, inaugurated the activities of the Atheneum Club of the English Department of M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women, Nungambakkam, last week. Mr. Gibson said the English language would be the international link and the mastery over it was the need of the hour. Nirmala Prasad, principal of the College and Ms. Kavitha, Head of the Department of English, were among those who participated.

Coaching

The coaching-cum-guidance centre for SC/STs, under the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment, will be assisting the SC/ST candidates to become data entry operators. SC/ST candidates having SSLC qualification and proficiency in computer operations are eligible. For details contact: 24615112.

Talk on radio

Ravikumar, MLA, will give a talk on `Dr. Ambedkarum Tamizhnadum' on All India Radio, Chennai A 720 KHz at 9.16 p.m. on Thursday as part of the death anniversary of Dr. B.R.Ambedkar.

Free cataract surgery camp

A free cataract surgery camp for senior citizens will be organised at Sree Nagamariamman Koil Kalyanamandapam, NSK Nagar between 8 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. on Saturday. The camp is jointly organised by Gremaltes hospital and HelpAge India. Free cataract surgeries with IOL implant will be done at the hospital for those detected with cataract. `Mission Green India'

Green Aims Society has launched `Mission Green India', a programme for children to plant one million neem saplings through various schools. More than 1,000 students of Chettinad Vidyashram, Chennai, have painted calendars to fund this activity.

An exhibition of these hand-made calendars will be held on Friday and Saturday at Chettinad Vidyashram School, R.A.Puram between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Students who took part in the programme will receive a neem sapling, which they can plant at the school or a place of their liking, says a release from Green AIMS Society.
