Train passenger held

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI : Police detained a passenger, who was about to board the Coromandal Express at Central Railway Station here on Tuesday.

The police said Abdul Barikhan of Orissa was having business on Thambu Chetty Street here.

As he was reportedly carrying Rs five lakh in cash, they immediately alerted the officers in the Income Tax Department. Investigations are on, they added.

In view of the Babri Masjid demolition memorial day falling on December 6, the railway police have been frisking baggage and other parcels of rail passengers as a precautionary measure.

All preventive steps have been taken and there was no untoward incident reported, said a railway police officer.
