HYDERABAD: Motorists using LPG kits for their vehicles in the city are having a torrid time because of inadequate supply of gas. Scenes of vehicles, especially autorickshaws, forming long queues at Lakdikapul and Secunderabad gas filling stations are almost turning out to be a daily affair.

At present, there are about 70,000 three and four-wheelers in the city operating on gas. And the number of vehicle owners opting for LPG kits is on the rise every month.

While the dealers and distributors of gas kits are gearing up in tune with the increasing demand, there are only seven gas filling stations in the city at Lakdikapul, Secunderabad, Bahadurpura, Saifabad, Goshamahal, Yousufguda and Somajiguda. "Authorities inform LPG gas is both economical and also aids in curbing the pollution, but they should also provide enough filling stations. To travel all the way to Lakdikapul just for the sake of filling gas is taxing," fumes K. Krihsna Manohar, a resident of Malakpet. And for autorickshaw drivers it is even tougher. As Mohd. Anwar, an auto driver says, "If they cannot increase the number of filling stations they should at least ensure enough supply of gas in the stations. Every alternate day, we find out-of-stock boards at most of the stations. It is a question of our livelihood." Acknowledging the problem, Civil Supply officials say there is a proposal to increase the filling stations. "Plans are afoot to increase the number of filling stations to 40 in twin cities and Ranga Reddy district," said an official.
