Election Commission verifies documents on votes cast in 123 booths

  • JD(U) candidate A.S. Guruswamy alleges proxy voting
  • Counting of votes begins at 8 a.m. tomorrow

MYSORE: After holding a marathon exercise to verify the authenticity of votes polled in 123 booths of Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency in Mysore, which recorded a voter turnout of more than 80 per cent on Monday, the Election Commission ruled out the need for a repoll in any of the booths.

Speaking to presspersons after the conclusion of the verification, Deputy Commissioner of Mysore, Selva Kumar, who is also the District Election Officer, said there was no need for repoll as the Election Commission officials after perusing the documents had concluded that the votes cast during the polling were authentic.

The verification of documents by Election Observer Raymond Peter and other officials of the district administration began on Tuesday morning in view of the Election Commission's guidelines to verify the documents pertaining to votes cast in booths, which had recorded a turnout higher than 80 per cent.

The verification process was held at Maharani's College in Mysore, where the EVMs used on December 4, had been kept. JD(U) candidate A.S. Guruswamy and Samajwadi Party candidate Karunakar, who attended the meeting, pressed for a repoll.

Mr. Guruswamy alleged that widespread proxy voting had taken place in the 123 booths. Though Siddaramaiah and Shivabasappa did not attend the meeting, they had deputed their representatives.
