Protest against high conversion charges

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Pradesh Nationalist Congress Party led by Ramvir Singh Bidhuri on Tuesday held a dharna at Raj Ghat demanding withdrawal of high conversion charges for change in land use and steep compounding fee for properties having covered extra area under residential plotted development. The Union Urban Development Ministry through a notification announced the charges recently.

A large number of party cadres led by senior NCP leader Tariq Anwar and Mr. Bidhuri shouted slogans demanding withdrawal of the conversion charges and inclusion of rural roads in the new list to be notified for mixed land and commercial use.

Addressing the protesters, Mr. Anwar said the charges for changing the use of residential property into commercial were very high and the common man and traders would not be in a position to afford them. He demanded that all conversion charges be withdrawn with immediate effect and the compounding fee being charged for extra ground coverage and Floor Area Ratio (FAR) also be brought down.

Mr. Bidhuri said rural roads in the Capital had been left out during the previous survey by the MCD . Demanding that rural roads be surveyed and identified for inclusion in the new notification, Mr. Bidhuri said there should be no discrimination.
