SALEM: Periyar University will provide financial assistance for taking up research in `Siddhar Padalgal', its Vice-Chancellor T. Balakrishnan said.
Separate section
Presiding over a conference on `Siddhar Sinthanai Marabu - Ariviyalum Ilakkiyamum', organised by the University Department of Tamil here on Wednesday, he said that the university would sanction two PhD seats to the Tamil department if a separate section for carrying out research in `Siddhar Padalgal' was established. The PhD students would be given assistance for undertaking research in the subject.
Publication division
He said that the publication division of the university would assist the authors to publish their books containing meanings of `Siddhar Padalgal' to make people understand them easily.
Treasure trove
Former director of World Tamil Research Centre Silamboli Sellappan said that the `Siddhar Padagal' were treasure trove of information about various aspects in life. But the subject was not given due importance. Head of the department Mathaiyan welcomed. Principal Kandasamy Kandar College, Paramathi Velur, Anbu Ganapathi and Professor Tamil Maran also spoke.
