Special Correspondent
Puducherry: A delegation of the Pattali Makkal Katchi, led by its deputy general secretary R. Anandaraman, MLA, presented a petition to the Lt.Governor Mukut Mithi on Wednesday seeking action against the Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader T. Murugan for causing threat to public peace by several agitations on the JIPMER issue. The agitations were also targeted personally against the Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss and the PMK's founder leader S. Ramadoss. This type of agitation was causing concern among the PMK party volunteers. Mr. Anandaraman said that although the Centre was only keen to ensure better performance of the JIPMER by making it an institution of "national importance", the CPI (M) leader was carrying on a wrong propaganda. Posting of doctors, nurses and other para-medical staff to fill vacancies were steps taken by Mr. Anbumani for better working of the hospital. A regional cancer treatment centre had been started and several infrastructure facilities, including super specialty blocks and an auditorium, were added to the hospital. He was accompanied by P. Arulmurugan, MLA, the vice-president, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry wing of the party N.G. Panneerselvam and the PMK convener, Pon. Selvarasu.
