KURNOOL: A farmer identified as B.C. Kutti committed suicide by consuming pesticide at Chennur of Sirivel mandal in Kurnool district on Wednesday. Crop loss was said to be the reason for his taking the extreme step. - Special Correspondent

Ryot commits suicide

ANANTAPUR: Failure of three borewells he had sunk for irrigating his land and debt burden forced a farmer of Kanganapalli to consume pesticide on November 28. He was immediately rushed to hospital where he died while undergoing treatment on Wednesday.

Last date extended

HYDERABAD: The Election Commission has extended to December 15, the last date for filing claims and objections to draft electoral rolls pertaining to teachers and graduates' constituencies for the Legislative Council elections. - Special Correspondent

No tobacco products on SKU campus

ANANTAPUR: In pursuance of the orders issued by the State Government, sale, stocking and use of tobacco products, including cigarettes, pan masala and gutka were banned on the campus of Sri Krishnadevaraya University from Tuesday. The ban on tobacco products would also be in force till 100 yards from the campus limits, according to the university authorities. — Staff Reporter

Arrack seized, four held

KADAPA: Excise officials arrested four persons, seized 60 litres of ID arrack and destroyed 1,810 litres of jaggery during raids in Rayachoti, Tsundupalle, Sambepalle and Chinnamandem mandals. Kamsala Easwaramma (32), Chappidi Kavamma (25), Shaik Malin Bi (38) of Kaitnayakunta in Rayachoti town and Mudineni Srinivasulu (28) of Rayachoti were arrested, District Assistant Excise Superintendent R. Jedson said in Rayachoti on Wednesday.
