Adoor stresses role of film fete

Film festival begins at Adoor

PATHANAMTHITTA: Filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan has said the film festivals could play a major role in bringing a positive change in the attitude of the common man towards the cinema.

Mr. Gopalakrishnan was inaugurating an international film festival organised by the district-level Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee of Kerala State Formation in Adoor on Wednesday.

The inaugural film was Mr. Gopalakrishnan's own award-winner `Nizhalkuthu'.

The switch-on was done by district panchayat president S. Santhakumari, at Nadom Theatre in Adoor.

Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, MLA, presided over the function. District Collector Ashok Kumar Singh, Kerafed chairman M. Sukumara Pillai, municipal chairperson Annamma Abraham, Additional District Magistrate B. Mohanan and Meera Sahib spoke.

The festival will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at two more centres in the district, Thiruvalla and Pathanamthitta, from Wednesday to Sunday, according to District Information Officer Saktikumara Varma.

The festival in Adoor will be held at the movie houses, Nayanam, Nadom and Smitha from Wednesday to Friday.

Transport Minister Mathew T.Thomas will inaugurate the festival in Pathanamthitta at 10 a.m. on December 7. The festival will be held at the theatres Anurag and Aiswarya from Thursday to Saturday.

The festival in Thiruvalla to be held at the theatres Chilanka and Triveni from Friday to Sunday will be inaugurated by film director Blessy on Friday forenoon.

The Malyalam movies to be screened at the festival include Vidheyan, Nizhalkuthu, Yavanika, Chidambaam, Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, Neythukaran, Kalapani and Newspaperboy.
