PROTECTION: Policemen stand guard at the old spare parts market in Hubli on Wednesday that remained closed as part of the protest against the demolition of Babri Masjid.
HUBLI: The twin cities witnessed "black day" demonstrations on Wednesday to mark the demolition of the Babri Masjid on this day in 1992. Some Hindutva organisations, including the Rashtriya Hindu Sena, burst crackers and distributed sweets to mark "Vijayotsava." Members of Muslim organisations and secular organisations termed the incident a blow to the secular nature of the country. They took out a protest march shouting slogans against religious fundamentalism. The Hubli-Dharwad police had made elaborate security arrangements in the region and in certain sensitive areas of the twin cities.
