Ambedkar remembered

CHENNAI: The 50th death anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar, one of the framers of the Constitution, was observed on Wednesday.

Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin, along with Dalit Panthers of India general secretary Thol. Thirumavalavan, garlanded the statue of the leader at Koyambedu.

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president M. Krishnasswamy paid floral tributes to the portrait of Ambedkar at Satyamurthi Bhavan, the party headquarters.

Bharatiya Janata Party State president L. Ganesan garlanded the leader's statue on the Chennai harbour premises.

Panruti S. Ramachandran, chairman of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam presidium, garlanded the statue at Perambur.

The Janata Dal (Secular) and the Ambedkar Makkal Kazhagam also observed the anniversary.

Chennai Port Trust chairman K. Suresh, National Maritime Academy director Prabhakaran and Ennore Port chairman-cum-managing director S. Velumani garlanded the statue at Koyambedu.

Vaiko pays homage

In New Delhi, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko, along with his party Members of Parliament, C. Krishnan and A. Ravichandran, paid homage near Ambedkar's statue in Parliament.
