NEW DELHI: A huge cache of melted coins and bars weighing over 400 kg and valued at over Rs. 2 lakhs has been seized from a resident of Rohini by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police. According to the police, Ramesh Chhabra procured the coins from Alwar, Nagpur and other parts of the country and melted them at his Ghaziabad factory to make bars of about 30 kg each. Then he sold these bars to various jewellers in and around Delhi to make artificial jewellery. Ramesh was allegedly engaged in the crime for the past six months and the police claimed to have recovered three more bags of melted coins from his factory at Kavi Nagar Industrial Areas in Uttar Pradesh. The accused was arrested near Badli on Outer Ring Road following a tip-off. . Around midnight, the police party spotted a car coming from Rohini and going towards Mukarba Chowk. The driver was signalled to stop but he tried to flee and was overpowered. During a search of the car, the police reportedly recovered three bags containing Indian coins in the denomination of Rs. 1, 2 and 5 and two bars of melted coins. Further investigation is on to probe the role of other persons in the business.
