Security to be stepped up in Manipur
Iboyaima Laithangbam
IMPHAL:
The Manipur Government on Thursday directed the police to step up security measures to ensure that there was no communal flare-up in the light of allegations that a tribal militant outfit was killing members of the majority community.
In a statement, the Women and Children Welfare Council said if there was a communal flare-up, the tribal outfit should shoulder the responsibility.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, who also holds the Home portfolio, instructed top-ranking police officials to arrest the culprits.
For several years, Manipur has witnessed ethnic killings between the Naga and the Kuki tribals.
