ANANTAPUR: A free medical camp was conducted by the NCC here on Thursday on the occasion of Armed Forces Flag Day. About 2,500 persons turned up at the medical camp organised on the premises of Government Degree (Arts) College. Commanding Officer of 6 (A) Girls Battalion of NCC Lt. Co. J.S. Thakur said that about 1,500 girls and women, 750 boys and men and about 200 elderly persons attended the camp and got health check-up done. Army doctor from Kurnool Col. R.K. Behra; house surgeons from the general hospital here; eye, ENT, surgical, gynaecology, orthopaedic, skin and dental specialists examined those who attended the camp. Free medicines were also given on the occasion. Medicines worth Rs. 10,000 were donated by RDT, an NGO, and also by the Army camp.
Blood donation
Besides, 12 girls and 25 boys of NCC donated blood. HIV tests were also conducted at the camp for persons who volunteered for the same. Earlier, District Collector D. Kadmiel inaugurated the collection of donations on Flag Day by donating some amount to the NCC cadets who went round the town collecting donations from people. They also collected donations from the Joint Collector and Superintendent of Police. District Sainik Welfare Officer S. Ramachandra said the amount would be utilised for the welfare of families of martyrs and ex-servicemen.
