dated December 8, 1956: New Railway Minister

Mr. Jagjivan Ram will be the new Union Minister for Transport and Railways, succeeding Mr. Lal Bahadur Shastri, whose resignation, following the recent Ariyalur train disaster, has been accepted by the President. The Ministry of Communications, which Mr. Jagjivan Ram headed until now, will be taken over by Mr. Raj Bahadur, Minister in the Ministry of Communications, except for the Civil Aviation Department, which goes to the Minister for Legal Affairs, Mr. H.V. Pataskar. These changes were announced in a press note issued by the Cabinet Secretariat in New Delhi on December 7.
