dated December 8, 1956: Dhyan Chand's advice

Capt. Dhyan Chand, the Indian hockey wizard, said in New Delhi on December 6 that the Indian hockey team's victory at the Melbourne Olympics was highly creditable, it being India's sixth successive victory in Olympics. He, however, said that India "cannot afford to rest on her laurels," in view of the stiff opposition she had met with both in the semi-final against Germany and in the final against Pakistan. "This is only a pointer to more serious threats to our supremacy in the next Olympics. We should start in right earnest from now on and, through intensive training in schools and colleges, look out for fresh talent instead of banking on our old-timers," the hockey wizard added.
