KATHMANDU: The Government of Nepal and the Maoists have begun talks to give a finishing touch to the interim constitution. The meeting that began at Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala's residence on Thursday will continue on Friday as well. Mr. Koirala and Maoist Chairman Prachanda had agreed on Wednesday to finalise the constitution within "a few days." The two sides will make necessary amendments on a draft constitution prepared by Interim Constitution Draft Committee (ICDC) led by former Supreme Court Justice Laxam Raymajhi. The committee had handed over the draft to the Government and Maoist talks team on August 25. The Government and the Maoists have agreed to look into stopgap arrangements for arms monitoring till the U.N. officials arrive.
