Rs.15 lakh to address grievances of ex-servicemen: Rangasamy

Puducherry: Lt. Governor Mukut Mithi and Chief Minster N. Rangasamy made contributions to the Flag Day Fund on the occasion of the Armed Forces Flag Day on Thursday.

The Lt. Governor distributed trophies to the Transport, Education and Commercial Taxes Departments for their significant contributions during 2005-2006 to the Fund at a function in Rajnivas. Karaikal district was adjudged the best among the outlying regions in supporting the fund. Joint Director of Planning from Karaikal R. Mohan (who represented the District Collector of Karaikal) received the trophy from the Lt. Governor.

Earlier in his Flag Day message, the Chief Minister said the administration was had allocated Rs.15 lakh this year for ex-servicemen and their families.

No efforts would be spared to address their grievances, he added.

The government had madereservations for ex-servicemen in State government services, he said.

Mr. Rangasamy said Puducherry had stood first among the Union Territories in supporting the Flag Fund every year and would receive the Defence Minister's trophy.

Lt. Governor Mukut Mithi, in his message, said the Armed Forces Flag Day brought to the forethe nation's obligation to look after war widows, the disabled and dependants of those who had sacrificed their lives.
