People thrilled over Siddaramaiah's win

Staff Correspondent

HUBLI: Leaders and activists of the Congress party observed "Vijayotsava" in the twin cities on Thursday to celebrate the victory of former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the bypoll.

They gathered at various circles in the twin cities to celebrate the victory and burst crackers in jubilation. They also distributed sweets to the passers-by and at few hospitals.

Former mayor Anilkumar Patil, Mahendra Singhi, Nagaraj Chabbi and Sadanand Danganavar took part in the celebrations. At Hubli, they also conducted a mock funeral of the Coalition Government to symbolise that the State Government would fall on its own owing to the impact of the election result.

Effigies burnt

They burnt effigies of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, former Prime Minister H.D. Devegouda, and Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa on the occasion.

Similar shows of jubilation by Congress workers were reported in almost all the taluks in the districts of Dharwad, Gadag and Haveri.
