New Delhi: The Election Commission is understood to have given a clean chit to Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss in the complaint seeking his disqualification on the plea that he is holding an office of profit as president of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences here. Commission sources said the opinion was sent on Thursday to President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who had forwarded the complaint made by Omesh Saigal. In the Commission's perception, Dr. Ramadoss does not attract any disqualification. The opinion would be released once the President accepted it. While Mr. Saigal maintained that the office of AIIMS president carried allowances and other perquisites, Dr. Ramadoss said he was covered by the provisions of Section 3 of the Parliament (Prevention of Disqualification) Act as he held the post in his ex-official capacity as Minister by virtue of a nomination by the Centre under Section 4(e) of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences Act, 1956. He was not entitled to any allowance or other remuneration though he could draw travelling and daily allowances.
