Sidhu's bail bond accepted
Chandigarh:
A court here on Thursday accepted bail bonds for Bharatiya Janata Party leader Navjot Singh Sidhu and his associate, who were sentenced to three-year imprisonment in a 1988 road rage case.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Y.S. Rathore accepted bonds for Rs. 10,000 each submitted by Chandigarh BJP chief Yashpal Mahajan (for Sidhu) and a local advocate (for Rupinder Singh Sandhu).
The 43-year-old former cricketer, who resigned as Lok Sabha member last week, and Sandhu were sentenced by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday for causing the death of an elderly man in Patiala 18 years ago.
Coming out of the court, Sidhu told reporters, "I am not worried at the court's verdict. I will soon move the Supreme Court and the law will take its course."
He said: "I am a sportsperson. I have seen several ups and down. I am taking these in true spirit."
