Jeevan blames it on `provocation'

Staff Reporter

KARIMNAGAR: Congress candidate and Jagtial legislator T. Jeevan Reddy on Thursday said the party had brought the byelection upon itself by provoking TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Telangana issue.

Speaking to newsmen at the counting centre here on Thursday, he said Accepting the defeat, he remarked: "We bought the elections by provoking the TRS."that the election was fought mainly on Telangana sentiment. The TRS was successful in propagating the message to the masses that Telangana movement would fade away if it were to be defeated.

Positive vote for party

"The record majority for the TRS is not against any political party but for the formation of separate Telangana. In fact, it's a positive vote for the Congress,'' he asserted.

The TDP fared better because it was successful in raking up the beedi packet danger mark row. Development and Telangana statehood were separate issues, he said and added that the Congress was committed to Telangana.

There was no dispute on development of Telangana region. Even the TRS president had accepted that Telangana had been witnessing good development under the Chief Minister's rule, Mr. Reddy maintained.
