KADAPA: Kadapa Municipal Corporation has formulated a pilot project for 24-hour drinking water supply, Municipal Commissioner S. Aleem Basha said on Thursday. Speaking at an awareness meet on water supply at Bharathi High School at Xionpuram here, Mr. Basha said drinking water supply had been augmented by erecting powerful motors and laying wider pipelines from Gandi waterworks to draw water from Pennar river. The Government had sanctioned Rs. 30 crores for water supply on the initiative of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, he said. Water meters would be put up to ensure judicious usage of water on the lines of electric meters fixed by Transco, he said. Out of the corporation's revenue of Rs. 1.20 crores, it was paying Rs. 5 crores towards electricity charges, he stated. Water would be stored in all overhead tanks to ensure supply. Municipal Corporation Superintending Engineer Prasada Rao said plans had been drawn to supply 700 litres of per family at the rate of 100 litres per person to 1,800 families.
