KURNOOL: President of Rayalaseema Hakkula Ikya Vedika T.G. Venkatesh has called upon people of the region to be mentally prepared for a separate Rayalaseema state and asked them to take a sensible stand this time as they have been the losers when the unified state was formed. Formation of separate Telengana is inevitable as has been indicated by the overwhelming majority secured by K. Chandrasekhar Rao in the Karimnagar byelection. Mr. Venkatesh told The Hindu on telephone on Thursday that granting of statehood to Telangana was no longer in the hands of individuals or parties but the people of that region who were in full command of the situation.
BJP support
He said the BJP was in favour of statehood for Telangana and the Congress was bound to accept the demand some day or other. Separate Rayalaseema appeared to be a safe bet, he said. He appealed to the Government not to pump in any more funds for development of Telangana from the unified State exchequer, as it would amount to hoodwinking equally backward regions like Rayalaseema. He described Karimnagar victory as tonic for the "sick" TRS and said nobody could stop breaking up of the State any longer.
