DOHA: Geet Sethi and Ashok Shandilya had to settle for bronze in the billiards doubles in the Asian Games at the Al Saad Sports Club here on Thursday. The Indian duo beat Vishan Gir and Sohail Shahzad of Pakistan 101-13, 102-9, 102-37 to collect the medal. The pair had earlier suffered a shock defeat against San Oo Aung and Oo Kyaw of Myanmar 100-84, 0-100, 100-32, 15-100 and 51-100. In men's snooker, Yasin Merchant lost 55-77, 52-74, 47-67, 17-52 to Nezar Asseri of Saudi Arabia in the pre-quarterfinals.
India beats Kuwait
The Indian volleyball team beat Kuwait 25-17, 25-16, 25-18 in a group `A' league match. There was nothing much to cheer about in the boxing ring at the Aspire Hall as three Indian boxers were shown the door in the quarterfinals. An entry in the semifinals would have ensured a medal. Serik Sapiyev of Kazakhstan beat Manoj Kumar in the 64 kg section, as the referee stopped the contest in the third round, with the Kazakh leading 30-7. In the 57 kg class, Bahodirjon Sultonov of Uzbekistan forced the referee to stop the contest in the third round as he outclassed Diwakar Prasad, having raced to a 24-4 lead. In the 51 kg section, Jitender Kumar also fell short of a medal round, as he was outclassed, as his opponent Violito Payla of Philippines jumped away to a 27-7 lead, before the referee stopped the contest.
Saina loses
In badminton, Saina Nehwal went down to Eriko Hirose of Japan 23-25, 7-21 in the second round of women's singles. In doubles, V. Diju and Srinivas Vidyadhar lost 16-21, 14-21 to Jae Sung Jung and Yong Dae Lee of Korea in the pre-quarterfinals.
