National veterans' tennis

HYDERABAD: The 11th GVK National veterans' tennis championship, sponsored by the GVK Group of Industries with a prize money of Rs. 5 lakhs, will be held at the SAAP Tennis Complex here from December 11, according to B.S. Krishna Reddy, tournament director.

Mr. Reddy said competitions would be held in three age groups of 45 years, 55 years and 65 years and above in singles and doubles. "This is the highest prize money event for veterans in the country and has attracted a record 220 entries," he said. Even the first round losers in the main draw will get a minimum of Rs 2,500 each.

Rohan wins title

Rohan Bhatia defeated S.M. Abdullah 6-4, 6-4 in the boys' under-12 final of the Brij all-India sub-junior tennis tournament here on Thursday.

The results: Boys under-14 (final): Chetan Pandit bt Tushal Thawani 6-1, 6-1. Semifinals: Chetan Pandit bt Rohit Bhist 6-4, 6-4; Tushal Thawani bt Surya Pawan 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Under-12 (final): Rohan Bhatia bt S.M. Abdullah 6-4, 6-4.

Girls' u-14 (final): M. Divija bt S. Rishika 6-1, 7-6(5). Semifinals: Divija bt Ankita Raina 6-2, 6-4; Rishika bt Nova Akshay Patel 2-6, 6-0, 6-2.

Under-12 (final): Anushka Bhargava bt Surya Tejaswini 6-4, 7-5. Semifinals: Surya bt K. Bhuvana 6-0, 6-3; Anushka bt Zainab Ali Sajjad 6-0, 6-4.

Haryana triumphs

Defending champion Haryana recorded a 28-run win against Hyderabad in the final of the seventh National junior (under-19) indoor cricket tournament for the Purkinje Cup on Thursday.

Haryana also won the under-14 category title defeating DMA (Meerut) by 25 runs. National selector S.L. Venkatapathi Raju and S. Srihari, GM, Purkinje, gave away the prizes.

Triniti wins tournament

Triniti defeated Portal Player 25-18, 25-20, 25-13 in the volleyball final of the Tata Consultancy Services Cup tournament here. In the semifinals, Triniti defeated Oracle 25-16, 25-17, while Portal Player put it across NMDC 25-15, 20-25, 15-8.
