Spirit seized

KOLLAM: Excise sleuths on Thursday seized 1,530 litres of spirit from an island at Shakthikulangara here. The seizure was made at 1.30 a.m.

The spirit was brought to the island in an outboard engine fishing boat by sea. Excise officers suspect that the consignment came from Goa. It is suspected that only a portion of the spirit off loaded at the island was seized. The seizure was made while the cans containing spirit were being loaded on to a lorry. The owner of the lorry, who is also its driver, managed to escape. Fifty one cans of 35-litre capacity each have been seized. The seizure was made by an Excise team lead by inspectors B. Suresh and B. Babukuttan under the supervision of Assistant Excise Commissioner K.N. Mohanlal.
