`Fall in margin will be examined'

Staff Reporter

KOLLAM: Education Minister M.A. Baby has said that while the victory at Thiruvambadi is something which the Left Democratic Front (LDF) can be proud of, the alarming fall in the victory margin will come up for serious examination by the LDF.

Talking to presspersons here on Thursday, he said that Thiruvambadi was a traditional United Democratic Front (UDF) stronghold and it was here that the LDF had registered two victories within the past six months.

The victory showed that the people rejected the calumny spread during the campaign period by the UDF against the LDF Government. One of the prime allegations through such campaign was the LDF was anti-minority. Two minority communities put together forms the majority at Thiruvambadi. The LDF victory showed that the anti-minority allegation against the LDF was rejected by all section of voters.

He said the issue of whether the support proclaimed by the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) for the LDF candidate at Thiruvambadi had actually helped the LDF or not would also be examined by the LDF and the CPI(M). On the face of it, this time also it appeared that the BJP had sold its votes to the UDF, Mr. Baby alleged.
