Ram and Sharan enter final

BANGALORE: Top seeded R. Ram Kumar of Tamil Nadu battled his way past fourth seeded Rashien Samuel of Karnataka 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5) in two hours and made the final of the boys' under-14 singles in the Century Club-AITA Champion Series tennis championship at the club courts here on Thursday. In the final, Ram Kumar will take on the second seed Sharan Patil who beat his Karnataka teammate Vinod Gowda 6-2, 6-4.

Success for TN pair

The Tamil Nadu pair Ram Kumar and Niranjan Kumar claimed the boys' under-14 doubles title with a 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5) win over Vinod Gowda and Chirag S. Igoor.

The top seed Yeshwanth Nadella of AP made short work of Jai Gandhi of Gujarat 6-2, 6-1 and entered the boys' under-16 singles final while top seed Rachita Sarda set up a title clash with another Bangalore girl, Yamini Reddy in the girls' under-14 singles.

The results: Semifinals: Boys: Under-14 singles: Sharan Patil bt Vinod Gowda 6-2, 6-4; R. Ram Kumar (TN) bt Rashien Samuel 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5).

Under-16 singles: Yeshwanth Nadella (AP) bt Jai Gandhi (Guj) 6-2, 6-1.

Girls: Under-14 singles: Rachita Sarda bt Likitha Shetty 6-3, 6-1; Yamini Reddy bt A.K. Padmapriya 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.

Finals: Boys: Under-14 doubles: R. Ram Kumar & Niranjan Kumar (TN) bt Chirag S. Igoor & Vinod Gowda 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (7-3). Under-16 doubles: P. Nitesh & Sujith Mathew bt Sharan Patil & Praveen Ramaswamy 6-7 (7-9), 6-0, 6-3. — Special Correspondent
