Two new substations in Bangalore soon

Chitra V. Ramani

  • They are likely to be commissioned in a month
  • Murugeshapalya residents complain of frequent power cuts

Bangalore: Several areas in Bangalore fed by the HAL-Adugodi line have been facing unscheduled load shedding for one and a half months.

Officials at the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) said they had to resort to load shedding to ease the load on the line. They claimed that unscheduled load shedding was the only way they could reduce the load on the line.

A few residents of Murugeshapalya told The Hindu that power outages had become more frequent and longer over the past few days. "Earlier, there would be no power supply for a maximum of 45 minutes. These days, there is no power supply for more than an hour. This is an everyday occurrence," said Shailaja, who lives in the area.

Areas that have been facing unscheduled load shedding include Amarjyothinagar, KC Valley Station, Marathahalli and Airport Road.

A senior official at BESCOM said that in order to ease the load on the line and ensure regular and quality power, two new substations were being set up. The two new stations would be of 66/11 kV capacity. Both the stations would have two transformers of 31.5 MVA capacity. Stations of this capacity usually had around eight to 10 feeders, he said.

While one was being set up at Kadabeesanahalli, the other was being set up at RMZ, near the Outer Ring Road. The official said that over 80 per cent of the work had been completed.

He said that the work of augmenting and setting up new substations was the responsibility of Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd.

The two substations were likely to be commissioned in a month, he said.
